Full course description
Virtual teaching and learning is here to stay in the "new normal," so let's reflect as practitioners on what might be good to keep and what might be good to leave behind as we move beyond emergency remote instruction.
This course is designed to introduce you to best practices in virtual teaching while encouraging you to reflect on your own style of teaching, instructional methods that you've adopted, and insights you've gathered from fellow teachers. What strategies have worked (or not worked) for you? What tools/technologies do your students find most engaging? We will explore these questions and more throughout the course as you complete reflective assignments and activities.
While virtual learning presents unique challenges, it's our responsibility as educators to leverage its benefits to enrich learning for all students. Hopefully, you will learn some key takeaways that you can immediately apply to your own virtual classrooms. Let's get started!
- Participants will identify mainstream and emerging online learning approaches and tools from the perspective of a virtual learning environment.
- Participants will develop skills and strategies for personalizing an online learning environment.
- Participants will develop skills and strategies for effective communication and feedback in an online learning environment.
- Participants will apply best practices of online teaching to two online lessons created by the participant.
